My heart stops!
And then... the first letter comes in...
A good friend, also a wonderful Beta reader, writes me,
"I couldn’t stop myself.....finished your book in two days! Your writing style is so easy to keep up with, I zoomed right through.
Once again you have brought us right into the heart of your lives. Your willingness to be this vulnerable and open is both engaging and surprising....although I shouldn’t be surprised. We’ve come to know you in this way from previous writings. Perhaps the work of forgiveness brings each of us back to that childhood innocence and openness you describe as well as display so vividly.
The struggle to find a working definition of forgiveness was brought home most clearly, I felt, by your work in general. Your whole life, your search for the truth about ‘who did this’, pursuing the stories of other victims, helping them find their voice, as opposed to ‘ stuckness’ which you also describe of others, was an act of forgiveness!
All those ‘ breakthrough’ moments in the lounge with lifers are testament to the forgiveness your life and choices you made offered! As your reader and observer, I got it! Perhaps that is the best result this manuscript can offer, that discovery the reader finds on her own while following you along on your journey. Words are not enough...forgiveness is lived! And we thank you for that enlightenment.
You ask me, Would I recommend this book?
I would, but with the caveat that they need to have read your previous books to fully appreciate this piece."
Then she offered her suggestions which were all doable - and which I will take into consideration when I make my final changes.
