Our household is in mourning today.
My little friend—the one who would come down and play with me, curl up beside me, and sit with me watching TV—is gone. He has gone to heaven.
Charlie was fourteen years old—about ninety-one in human years—so perhaps his little body was telling him it was time. And what a good life he had. He was so deeply loved.
I would describe Charlie as a tender-hearted little dog with a huge bark. He had a bark that could make everyone obey! Whenever someone came through the door, he would rush to greet them—not viciously, but with the enthusiasm of a little creature who seemed determined to embrace everyone who entered his world.
Charlie was a little dog who loved and was loved. He loved Georgia—and how beautifully those two got along. They had their own special friendship, and I think that is one of the things that will make his absence especially hard.
Charlie was such a perfect little companion. He filled our home with his presence, his personality, his bark, his little demands for treats —and his love. And now there is an empty place where he used to be.
He is going to be so missed.
So very, very missed.
Goodbye, little Charlie.
